For pharmacists in the state, information about drugs will soon travel at the speed of emails. The Karnataka State Pharmacy Council (KSPC) is collecting the email IDs of new as well existing members so that it can disseminate information about drugs as quickly as possible.
Karnataka State Pharmacy Council is a statutory body constituted by the Government of Karnataka under the provisions of the Pharmacy Act of 1948. The Karnataka State Pharmacy Council is the first council to have all the technical data computerized, issue Identity Cards to all practicing Pharmacists, launch Community Pharmacy Programs & Continuing Education Programs to update pharmacist’s knowledge.
Though providing email IDs is not mandatory, collecting the email IDs of new as well existing members will help KSPC to disseminate information about drugs as quickly as possible.The council plans to begin the service once it finishes collecting email IDs and that should take a few months.
The total number of registered pharmacists as on date is as of 44002 as of 12th October 2010.The main function of the KSPC is to grant registration to the eligible pharmacists. In addition to the main function of registration, the council has expanded its activities in Appointment of Pharmacy Inspectors, Financial Assistance, Drug Information, Continuing Education, Publications, Pharmacist Social Security Scheme etc. KSPC president D A Gundu Rao said though the service was optional, they were willing to help those without an email ID to create one.
The email service will work as an internal circular among registered pharmacists. For instance, if a drug is banned, or crucial information about a drug has to be passed on, this is the most effective way.
